First battery storage project implemented: BESS Halle with 22.8 MWh

With the battery storage system in Halle, CCE Holding has reached an important milestone: our first grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS) project has been successfully implemented.

Flexibility for the grid: Our first large-scale battery storage system in Halle

Together with Intilion: CCE implements first battery storage system in Halle

The project at a glance

The storage system has an installed power of 12.5 MVA and an installed capacity of 22.8 MWh. Guaranteed are 11.11 MW of power and 21.05 MWh of usable capacity. This provides the grid with reliably plannable flexibility. Intilion supplied the storage system, consisting of battery containers, power electronics and control technology.

Why battery storage?

The more electricity from solar and wind flows into the grid, the more important flexibility becomes. Battery storage systems absorb energy when it is available in abundance and release it again when it is needed. In this way, they contribute to grid stability and help to integrate renewable energies even better into the energy system.

A strong partner at our side

With Intilion, we have chosen an experienced German EPC* partner that stands for reliable technology and high plant availability. The close cooperation from planning through to commissioning has made a significant contribution to the success of the project.

Outlook

BESS Halle is the starting signal for us: The project complements our portfolio of photovoltaic and storage projects, and further battery storage systems are already in the planning stage.

*EPC stands for Engineering, Procurement, Construction – that is, planning, procurement and construction.
