CCE Holding is currently constructing in Dunkelstein near Neunkirchen (Lower Austria) an innovative photovoltaic system that combines agriculture and fossil-free energy generation in a meaningful way.

The owner of the land on which the plant is being built is the Minorite Convent Neunkirchen. The Franciscan Minorites have been rooted in the region since 1631 - their commitment to this future project combines centuries-old tradition with modern technology.

Electricity generated by PV systems is more than just a 'green project':

When solar energy is used locally for electricity generation and fed into the grid, it reduces dependence on energy imports, saves emissions locally, and helps to keep electricity prices stable. The plant with a total capacity of 5.033 MWp is being implemented by CCE Austria together with the development partner 10hoch4 from Wiener Neustadt. The project is an example of how sustainable technologies can be meaningfully integrated into existing agricultural structures.

Two plants will generate electricity for the region in the future:

The PV plant comprises two adjacent sites with 2.358 kWp and 2.675 kWp, which will jointly supply more than 1,500 households in the region with solar power in the future. At the same time, the use of the land for agriculture is maintained: sheep graze the plant, ensuring the maintenance and preservation of the area in a resource-efficient manner.
The construction with pile-driven support systems ensures that the ground is not sealed - a central aspect for sustainable use in line with the Agri-PV concept. This creates a double benefit: energy generation and animal husbandry on the same area.

"With the Agri-PV plant Dunkelstein, we are setting a strong example for a smart energy transition that considers the environment, agriculture, and the region equally," says Maximilian Reithmeyer, project manager of CCE Austria.
